Nestled in the picturesque district of Malappuram in Kerala, this 2800 sq. ft. residence by Cognition Design Studio embodies the essence of tropical architecture while seamlessly integrating modern design elements. Kerala, known as "God's Own Country," boasts a rich cultural and architectural heritage. The region experiences a tropical monsoon climate characterized by heavy rainfall, high humidity, and warm temperatures throughout the year. These climatic conditions significantly influence its architectural style, particularly the use of sloped roofs and emphasis on natural ventilation.

Situated in a linear plot, the residence capitalizes on its ample front yard space. A detached carport positioned towards the east is adorned with a pitched roof, complemented by lush greenery on either side, creating a welcoming entrance. The architectural style leans towards the tropical aesthetic, featuring pitched roofs with roof tiles. The exterior palette predominantly embraces white tones with selective use of cement-textured accent walls, enhancing the visual appeal.

The four-bedroom residence is meticulously designed to maximize the use of every square foot. Spread across two levels, it achieves a harmonious balance between privacy and functionality. The expansive sit out provides a warm welcome, showcasing panoramic views of the lush surroundings and providing built-in seating for relaxed gatherings. Moving from the sit out, the ground floor seamlessly flows into a formal living area and onward to the dining space. A rotating TV unit cleverly divides the formal living and dining areas, enhancing both functionality and visual appeal with its unique design.

The staircase, strategically located on the west side of the dining room, features a bench seat underneath, promoting interaction and functionality within the space. Ascending to the first floor reveals a pitched roof design that adds architectural interest and accommodates a family living area and two additional bedrooms. A large balcony on the front side provides an intimate outdoor retreat, offering panoramic views of the surrounding landscape.

The interior design ethos revolves around minimalism and light colours, amplifying the sense of space and airiness. Textures and shades of wood in the furniture pieces add warmth and character to the interiors, creating a harmonious balance between contemporary aesthetics and traditional influences.
